Who is La Cooquette?

*download updated media kit

¡Hola! I’m María Sierra, a.k.a. “La Cooquette” from my YouTube channel and personality. I was born in Honduras, but I consider myself a citizen of the world. I started “La Cooquette” in Los Angeles, CA but I’ve also lived and worked in Spain, Panama, Mexico City, Washington DC, NYC and Tijuana, Mexico. I recently relocated to Madrid, Spain. I am completely enamored by food and its ability to inspire and connect people. I’m also a mom of three beautiful girls and love to share glimpses into my parenting experience as a support to other moms who may relate.

What will you find on La Cooquette?

La Cooquette is a destination for food lovers, for those adventurous souls who dare to experiment in the kitchen, for those who laugh at failed cooking attempts, and those who seek to discover the history of cultures and places through food. With recipes ranging from creative dishes pulled from your favorite TV shows and movies to Latino and fusion flavors, from traditional recipes from faraway lands to creative twists on everyday favorites,  and lots of yummy things in between – you’re in for a treat!

I’ve also learned many things about feeding little ones, after immersing myself in a mixed introduction to solids method with my three daughters. This has allowed them to be open to trying different flavors and helped them discover how interesting the world of food. I encourage cooking with kids as much as possible, it’s a fun learning experience for both sides!

My cooking story

I was a social media marketer when I started my blog as a way to document all my kitchen adventures and food experiences. I have a neverending curiosity for discovering new culinary smells, vibrant ingredients, and eccentric tastes. I’m also a sucker for dishes that carry a rich history, recipes that tell stories about cultures and traditions that make us understand the world better. These 2 driving forces, creativity in food and traveling via food, brought me and my husband to start our mostly Spanish-speaking La Cooquette YouTube channel, as well as this website, in 2013. Fast-forward a few years and now I am a full-time content creator, earning up to 5x as much as I earned from my “normal job”. I’m also host of my own cooking show, reaching an audience of over 2 MILLION people worldwide!

One biiig confession? I wasn’t always good at cooking. I have fallen and failed soooo many times, but had fun and learned with each and every one of my fiascos! So don’t feel discouraged if your culinary creations don’t look nice at first. It happens to all of us! Oh, and I’m still a mess in the kitchen (that won’t ever change) so this blog serves also as a challenge and proof that I – and anyone for that matter- can get my act together to cook something delicious and make the people you love happy!

Gracias, gracias, gracias:

I

None of my achievements would’ve been possible if it weren’t for those who have supported me from the start, people who have even tried out my worst recipes, and those who, even from afar, have moved me to always follow my passion for creating deliciousness. These include my family, friends, “Team Cooquette” members, and more importantly my super-talented husband Álvaro Hernández, who actually came up with the idea to start a YouTube channel.
