Memorial day recipes come along with a few traditions to observe this special American holiday.
Before 2020, it was common to see parades and join family gatherings. However, we still prefer to be cautious and prepare some recipes at home, to eat and share with our closest loved ones.
In-N-Out Double-Double Hamburger (Homemade)
I love In-N-Out and the Double-Double burger is my favorite. Such a beef-and-cheese-loaded burger deserves to be at your table.
Moreover, if you can grill both the beef patties AND the onions, you will improve this recipe even more.
You can read a step-by-step guide in my blog post about the In-N-Out Double-Double recipe.
Marinated Mini Sweet Peppers
Peppers mix very well with grilled dishes. They add juiciness and sweetness along with smooth textures. Among peppers, mini bell peppers are delicious and easy to cook.
This recipe is a flavor bomb with all the garlic, parsley, and dill enhancing the mini bell peppers’ taste. Keep in mind that the marinating process takes 24 hours, so although easy, you should prep this recipe a day ahead.
However, once these delicious sweet peppers are ready, they’re versatile and easy to serve. You can have them as a side when you grill a good steak or can elevate your burgers, sandwiches, and toasts to a whole new level.
If you or someone in the family prefer to consider plant-based alternatives, mashed potatoes match perfectly with these marinated peppers too.
Taquesos! (Low carb cheese shell tacos)
Once upon a time in Mexico City, I stumbled upon chicharrón de queso, which is basically a crispy cheese shell. Later, I tried to use similar cheese shells to make tacos, and they were delicious.
As you may know, cheese is a low-carb option, although not low in calories. However, cheese tacos are a lot tastier and crispier than regular ones. That’s for sure!
In the video, I made them small, as appetizers filled with guacamole and chismol (pico de gallo). They can be a great choice for vegetarian meals or meatless Mondays too!
Grilled cheese hotdogs
Hot dogs are an American classic and one of our Memorial Day’s typical dishes to share at home or outdoors. I picked Delish’s recipe because it’s easy-to-make, yet quite original.
Besides, if you know me, melted cheese is one of my weak spots (self-proclaimed “#quesolover”). Moreover, the combination of cheddar, green onions, and sausages is superb.
Definitely, these grilled cheese hotdogs are worth the try.
Green chile lobster rolls
A few years ago I recreated New England’s lobster rolls recipe inspired by Baja California cuisine. These green chile lobster rolls came out from that experiment. They have the smooth and creamy taste of the American classic infused with a vibrant and zesty touch from green chilies, epazote, and key lime.
I know I can’t be objective, but I’m sure they’re a great choice if you want to try something different from burgers and hot dogs.
Tostones Sliders
Tostones (fried green plantains) are a traditional snack of Latino cuisine and the perfect solution for a delicious gluten-free burger!
Fried green plantains have different names across Latin America, but they’re delicious everywhere. Moreover, in this recipe, they mix very well with beef, guac, and cheese.
These tostones sliders are so good they can easily become your new favorite when compared to regular buns!
Easy or innovative?
Sometimes we want to cook the easiest recipe at hand, and other times we want to be innovative in the kitchen. I hope this selection caters to both moods, as it includes both practical and more elaborated Memorial Day recipes, both for indoor and outdoor fun.
In any case, share your experience in the comments below. I want to know which is your favorite one and how did you like it! And remember, if you want to read more of my recipes and hand-picked selections, check them here.
