Garfield loves lasagna more than anyone, and we developed this lasagna recipe drawing inspiration from the famous cartoon cat. As a result, we enjoyed a creamy, filling, and tasty dish.
Lasagna is Garfield’s favorite dish, and we love it too. It’s filling, hearty, delicious, and perfect for sharing.
Our YouTube subscribers asked for this recipe for a long time. We loved learning how to make it—and eating it, of course!
We found Garfield’s recipe thanks to a particular strip where he indicates the ingredients: pasta, onions, ricotta, mozzarella, tomatoes, and sausage.
Indeed, we didn’t follow Garfield’s lasagna recipe by the book because we added a couple of ingredients to make it creamier and tastier. Still, it was worth experimenting with because we loved the result.
Tips for making Garfield’s lasagna recipe
In America, lasagna has undergone a few changes that make it different from its Italian counterpart. Like most traditional dishes in Italian cuisine, lasagna has been adapted according to local preferences and ingredients. That said, we developed this recipe thinking about Garfield. For this reason, we aimed for a cheesy, rich, and filling lasagna version, more than a traditional Italian recipe.
- If you can’t find minced Italian sausage, you can buy any European-style spicy sausage. Then, get the right texture with a fork or a food processor.
- Add mascarpone and eggs to the cheesy mix to get a creamier and richer cheese layer.
- Cover the lasagna with buttered aluminum foil. Then make some incisions on it so that you get a uniform gratin without burning the cheese or getting it stuck on the foil.
Find below the recipe with all the ingredients and a step-by-step guide to make a delicious Garfield’s lasagna at home.
Garfield’s Lasagna
Ingredients
- 1 lb lasagna pasta sheets
- 2 cups diced tomatoes
- 3 cups crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup tomato paste
- 1 lb Italian style sausages (or European sausages)
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ large onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tbsp basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 lb ricotta cheese
- ½ lb mascarpone cheese
- ¼ lb parmesan
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp parsley flakes
- 1 pinch nutmeg
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan, add chopped garlic, minced sausages, and beef. Then, season with salt, pepper, and parsley. Now, let cook well until beef is well done.
- Put a saucepan to medium fire to fry garlic and chopped onions in olive oil. Stir to mix all the ingredients, cover the saucepan, and let the sauce cook for 10 minutes. When chopped onions are golden and soft, add chopped tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, and tomato paste. Now, season with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil.
- Mix the sauce and the meat in a pan and save for later.
- Mix ricotta, mascarpone, parmesan cheese, eggs, salt, pepper, and nutmeg in a bowl thoroughly.
- To cook lasagna sheets, put them in a pot with boiling water for 60 to 90 seconds only. Then, transfer to a bowl with cold water. Now, place on parchment paper and dry with a paper towel. Repeat this process until cooking all the lasagna. Avoid putting lasagna one over another. Put a sheet of parchment paper between them instead, so that they don't stick.
- To build the lasagna, butter the baking pan and pour a layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of the pan. Then, create a layer of pasta.
- Spread a thick layer of creamy cheese on top of the pasta. Then, create a thick layer of the ground meats mixture, spreading evenly with a spoon. Now, cover the meats sprinkling mozzarella generously on top.
- Repeat this process building a layer of pasta, cheese, meats, and mozzarella until running out of ingredients.
- On top, add a layer of pasta covered with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese.
- Butter a sheet of aluminum foil and cover the lasagna with it, leaving some free space on top. Make several punctures into the aluminum foil and take the lasagna into the oven for 45 minutes at 350 °F.
- Take the lasagna out of the oven and let it sit for a couple of minutes before serving.
- That's it, enjoy your well-deserved lasagna!
